Summer Assignments 2010

Check the list below for the summer assignments for each class you will be taking this fall.

Research

Research 1 and Research 2 - In preparation for distance learning sessions with researchers at the University of Miami's Miami Project, students will spend time over the summer doing background research on issues surrounding stem cell research. The activities in the following file will be collected on the first day of research class: Research 1 Summer Assignment.

Research 2 - As you continue to work on your SRP this summer you will want to also research the various competitions available as each of you will be required to submit to one. You will need to choose and become familiar with at least one competition to which you will submit your senior research project. Aspects of the competions to focus on include:

  • timeline and deadlines
  • forms
  • written format
  • presentation format
  • cost
  • location
Some of the competitions begin earlier than others so this may be a limiting factor. In addition to the Virginia Junior Academy of Science competition, there are many other competitions to consider. Examples of other of the competitions can be found at: http://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/top_science-fair_overview.shtml If you run into some other “credible” competitions that you find more to your liking, do your research and contact Mr. Dietrich. He will be checking his email weekly during the summer. Good luck and have a fun summer!
